Static shock from car

How do you avoid getting static shocks from cars when getting out? Are there any gadgets/gizmos on the market? I seem to remember the strips that all the boy racers used to hang off the rear of their Cortina's/Capri's in the 70's. Something similar I suppose, but a little less obvious?

I remember those rubber strips which dangled from behind the back wheel, and they were supposed to earth any static build-up, BUT....
If ever I get static shocks  off my car I take it round to my mechanic or tyre-bay, as I was told that there could be a problem with your tracking or wish-bones.
HTH
You can spend your time alone re digesting past regrets,
Or you can come to terms and realize you're the only one who can forgive yourself.
Makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Simple answer, hold a metal part of the car as you get out and ground yourself. This is the only thing that works. This signature is not mine!0

I've had this problem with my previous car. It was real bad I could get upto 10 good shocks a day. I thought it was the problem with the seat covers?? Nevertheless, sold that car for upgrading to a new car and now got leather seats. No more shocks.

You are getting shocks because of a bad earth, the car is live and you’re touching the bodywork and it grounds through you.
It maybe the battery earth is a bit knackered or the lights are not earthling properly, the lights are normally grounded through the body work and if its badly earthed ? Then the shock will go through you
Take a look or get an auto electrician to have a look, saves blowing fuses al the time, plus he will find the fault in no time.

Never heard that one before? Tracking is for your steering, stops the tires from getting warn unevenly and helps the steering from pulling to one side.I'm not poor i'm just skint0 -
hang on a minute, whats all the commotion about?
the strips that you put onto the back of your car are still available for a fact! pop down your local halfords, you'll be looking for an 'antistatic strip' made by a company called summit i think. it only costs around a tenner but that would do the job!0 -
I get shocks off my car, my husband's car, and everyone else's I know! I always thought it was the shoes I was wearing ...

Holding onto the metallic bit of the door frame before you put your foot to the floor does work though but when I forget, ouch it hurts! :eek:Baby #1 due December '05

I get that too - but for some reason it is only ever cars owned by my male freinds, never a girls car! I think all of their cars must be sexist, because they get me unawares every time!
