EON smart meter

hi there
I had an  EON smart fitted about 6 months ago after waiting nearly a year as they could not fit the meter to a box that was underground, to be honest since fitting it has worked well, however it has now stopped working and although EON have acknowledeged the problem they are saying it is going to take 6 months to fix,
is anyone else having this problem

Is it the Smart meter itself that has stopped working of the IHD (In House Display) in your kitchen ?

Put in a drawer like most other people do.

As long as you read the actual Smart meter  there's no problem.

  • Hi Robin
thanks for the reply i just think it is annoying that the push is for households to have a smart meter, it took a year or so for it to be installed, and now it cant be fixed for at least six months.

I entirely agree. I love technology and like the idea of smart meters when they work properly !
I started off over 5 years ago with SMETS1 meters with Scottish Power.

The meters stopped working after a few months and they never seemed interested in fixing the issue, I think they only cared about OFGEM smart meter installation targets !

Then last year i moved to OVO and I had to have SMETS2 meters fitted as the SMETS1 meters wouldn't work with OVO (I suspect OVO were just saying that to also hit OFCOM installation targets)

I can understand that when SMETS1 meters were fitted (over 5 years ago) that it was 'new' technology so problems would be expected but my SMETS2 meters only fitted last year haven't been working for nearly 3 months and it was OVO's failure to get them working again that was the reason I moved to E.ON as I was told over the phone before I moved to them that they would sort out my meters and now you are saying that E.ON said you got to wait 6 months !

I think it's a communication issue as my WAN light is flashing 7 times in succession where as when it was working the light only used to flash once every 3 or 4 seconds 🤔

Hi ivanm72 and welcome to the forum.

There's been quite a bit posted about this on MSE, thanks all on the thread. I do know it's a frustrating problem to have.

We're aware a small proportion of SMETS2 customers are having this issue and are working with our partners to fix it.

Much of the problem is down to network issues which are out of our hands. We're working with the communication provider, IHD manufacturer and the network operator to sort this. I don't have a timeframe at this point. I totally understand the frustration this causes and we're hoping to have more positive information soon.

In the meantime, please try placing the IHD nearer the electricity meter, make sure there are no obstructions blocking the signal and reset the IHD. This has sometimes worked although not always. We will still receive your meter reads and you can track your usage on your online account.

There's a page on the website that also goes in to a bit more detail.

    Thank you

    Helena
