Hello Forumites! However well-intentioned, for the safety of other users we ask that you refrain from seeking or offering medical advice. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, air is cool.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.

Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's dark and damp here after a lot of rain yesterday, forecast is a bit better for today.I did some much needed housework yesterday, and will do a bit more today, there's always something to do.Hope everyone has a good day, sorry about my boring little post, I lead a boring little life !!Take care folks14

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Still dark outside but forecast says we will have light rain later in the day. The leaves came off the trees with a vengeance yesterday, everywhere got covered in them. Such a shame really as the autumn leaves are so colourful.
Up and at 'em early today as DD is picking me up 8,15, start of the school run, to go onwards to my oldest buddies to do a socially distanced drop of her birthday present and a bag of books. In return she has a bag of books for me too! Then DD will drop me in town, whilst she goes onwards to WW for her dreaded weigh in! Ill get one or two bits before the bus back up, stopping off at the chemist in the village to see what a mix up he has made of my meds this time.
Tesco delivery after lunch. I wonder how lucky, or unlucky, I will be this time! I still have quite a few eggs left so if I get the dozen I ordered as might do an omelette for tea to use up the older ones. I still have a few mushrooms left that are on the verge of looking sad, so they will go in with some ham and cheese.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts yesterday. We had a nice tea at the carvery and all, except DD, found room for a pud! It was fairly quiet when we went in but was quite busy by the time we left. Obviously worth their while to continue offering the 50% of food.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care and stay safe (and sane) xx

Morning
I've been popping in regularly but only stay for a few minutes at a time - this site hurts my eyes after a few minutes so I've typed this out in Office and will copy and paste it. No idea if this site likes that sort of thing so if it all comes out wonky, give me a minute to try to fix it
In the last few months, we lost a holiday in Cornwall, rearranged the garden and now have a new veg patch with all raised beds, new fence down one side of the garden, made two gates, built a bin store and a new chicken run. I bought a big roll of welded mesh for the roof, I wanted green but could only get silver – I found it difficult to find any chicken supplies because so many people had decided to keep chickens. The only mesh available was this one, which I knew wasn't ideal. I hated it from the minute it arrived, it was too heavy so sagged a lot and was a nightmare to work with, my hands were covered in scratches which I was painfully reminded of every time I had to use hand gel. But I had to use it because a fox got in a while back – luckily it was a young one and didn't know how to attack a chicken properly so I scared it off, Matilda had a few feathers pulled out but was otherwise OK. I've since ordered slightly thinner green wire and am halfway through replacing the ugly saggy scratchy stuff. It should be done by now but it's a horrible job and I keep putting it off, lol.
We lost three chickens to old age, they went in their sleep, a couple of weeks apart. Decided it was time to expand the flock so put an extra perch in their house, bought lots of supplies but couldn't find any chickens! We did find a place that specialises in bantams so we bought three – one normal bantam size and two minis. I call them my bantam-bantams, lol. They lay the most perfect mini eggs. Still on the lookout for six normal sized chickens but we probably won't find any until next spring now.
We managed a week in Cornwall at the end of last month, I didn't pack til the last minute because I was sure it was going to be cancelled. No problems with crowds because we stay in the middle of nowhere and don't go to busy places anyway – Scamp is our natural social distancer
We drove down into Looe a couple of times to cross the bridge round to Hannafore, it was heaving and despite lots of signs telling people to keep left (including big arrows to remove any doubt, lol) people were completely ignoring them. No wonder locals are furious – I was furious and I don't live there!
Also have a new niece, she was born in July, 6lb ½oz of scrummy perfection

Good morning everyone
It's good to see you tru and congrats on your little niece. Glad to hear about Scamp and your chicken flock.
TA, I'm glad you had a nice time out with your family yesterday.
I have been plodding along, just knitting away for most of the day..ooh, I'm a poet and I know itI am going to go out on Sunday to my sister's house for tea. I am beyond excited. It will be the first time I have left the house other than for medical stuff in a year. I just hope I don't stress myself too much thinking about it. I have also decided that I am also going to start walking around the car park outside to get some mobility back.
Lilly wants to come over later and build my new desk with her dad. That will be fantastic as it has been propped up in our living room for a couple of months now. Steve has very painful knees at the moment so he hasn't been able to put it together. I will be so glad to get it done as my old desk is very rickety.
I am going to make a beef and Guinness stew today so I will get a start on chopping the veg in a minute. I have some shallots to peel and I always find them a right faff to do. It doesn't feel too cold out at the moment but a stew is always welcome, especially with parsley dumplings.
Hope you are all ok, I am reading along every day but don't always feel up to posting. Hope you have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning everyone.Yesterday morning was very busy, I left the house at 8.15 and didn't get back until after 1pm. A neighbour helped me bring things up from the car, the cake carrier is unwieldy and I had two carriers and a pack back too.The birthday tea was successful which was lovely. A 75th birthday alone wouldn't have been fun. The cake I ordered from the little Italian deli was so delicious, polenta cake studded with blueberries and I bought a wee half bottle of proper fizz for him and DM. Most cake makers focus on cakes with huge mounds of sweet frosting / icing / buttercream, these make my teeth squirm! This morning I'm off for breakfast with my friend. Usual fare is poached eggs with bacon whilst he has black pudding too. This week it's his turn to pay so very MSE.
It's great to see TRU again, gosh you've been mega busy! DUMPLING - fabulous news about you going out at the weekend. It'll be great. 😀
Time to move, I hope everyone has a Happy Wednesday.14 -
Morning all Dog has been walked and fed and today is a housework day . We popped to B&Q got the paper and paint for the master bedroom we also had a refund of our big holiday so we think we will do the front room completely top to bottom with new sofas . DD1 is home in her flat with meds and some follow up appointments we were getting worried about her mental state stuck in a single room with no visitors for a week but she seems ok i will talk to her later as she wanted to have a bath and go to bed yesterday .
Tru how lovely to see you glad you managed to get away and Scampi sounds like an excellent covid marshall maybe you could rent him out .
TA sounds like a good evening was had by all and a busy day ahead
Dumpling its good to have something nice to look forward to enjoy the new desk and trip to your sisters
Gers Polenta cake not something i have ever tried is it sweet? I agree about Bday cakes DD2 had a naked wedding cake which was just right as vikki sponge doesn't really need any extra sweetness
Right onwards n upwards you all sound busy bees today so i better up my game . Have a good day whatever you are up to xx

BELLA The polenta cake from the deli has just the right amount of sweetness which mostly comes from the light dusting of icing sugar on top. The texture is ever so slightly gritty, it's light and refreshing with a hint of lemon.I also bought a large chocolate muffin to put the two candles on ( a 7 and a 5) so that he wasn't blowing them out all over the main cake, an anti-COVID measure.Good to hear that your DD is home at last.13

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Tru, lovely to see you and congratulations on your new niece. Have you tried a battery hen rescue site? I don't have chickens so I don't know if rescued hens would get pecked by your existing residents.
Dumpling, lovely for you to go out, hope you enjoy it. I'm doing a lot of knitting too, trauma teddies and now a collection of baby clothes for my friend's grandchild to be.
Today I have no firm plans but if it doesn't rain, might cut the grass only it mostly does rain, so that may have to wait.
Am trying to think of some money saving content here but all I can think of is not going anywhere so not spending. Which is a bit negative somehow.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning All
Quick post from me, DS1 and DGS went home yesterday, DGS has an audiology appt today. DGD is staying with me for another day or so. We're going swimming (again) then meeting up with DD and the little one. It's so calm here after having DGS, DGD is a breeze!
We've had lots of home cooked meals, including veggie haggis which I thoroughly enjoyed but will enjoy not cooking again when they've all gone!
Washing just about to go out but it's looking a bit grey. The last few days have been showery in the morning then glorious in the afternoon so the washing has been nearly dried outside.
Hope everyone's well, take care. XX12
