Need external CD/DVD player

Question from someone with limited knowledge,
I have a HP laptop about one year old without a CD Rom, I would like to purchase a cheap external CD/DVD player as the laptop does not have a built in one.
Don't need blue ray just want to play a few old dvd's and music cd's, I also have some soft ware on disc I would like to load onto the laptop.
So what sort of unit should I get and will it come with software to run it.
I know its a simple question to you lot but any help would be great thanks.
