I was just having a closer look at my Experian file when I noticed the comment "Aliases - 1". Clicking on the link took me to a page with the following information (paraphrased):
Miss Lxxxxx Mxxxxxx alias of Mrs Lxxxxx Wxxxxxx
Data submitted by Principality Building Society
November 2007.
To be clear, this person does not live at my address, and I have no financial connection with her.
The surname given for "Mrs L W" is my surname, and my forename begins with "L". This bothers me because it is not the first time this confusion has arisen. About 5 years ago British Gas started charging me for the gas at a second property. At the time I was paying for my gas with a pre-payment meter, and because of that it took me a while to realise that something was wrong. Some detective work on my part eventually discovered that the second bill was in respect of another property a few hundred yards from where I live - and occupied by Mrs Lxxxxx Wxxxxxx. British Gas, it seems, had concluded that I ("Mr Lxxxxx Wxxxxxx") was the same person as Mrs Lxxxxx Wxxxxxx despite the different forenames, and that I was responsible for the gas account at both properties. On that occasion, a strongly worded letter to British Gas got it corrected and got me an apology.
Why is this information showing on MY credit file? Does it suggest that they think I am her, or merely that I am financially connected to her? Time for a SAR perhaps. Grateful to hear people's thoughts.
