Service due on a 12 month lease
Hi
I took ownership of a lease car in February 2020 on a 12 month lease. When I received the original paper work through to sign, they provided the following instructions:
WE ALSO NEED THE CUSTOMER TO CHANGE THE DATE OF REG TO 30/09/2019 AND SIGN NEXT TO THE CHANGES AS THE SYSTEM WON’T ALLOW US TO ENTER THIS DATE*
I didn't think too much of it at that time and the dealer didnt say anything further about it at that time. Today, a warning indicator has popped up on the car saying that a service is due in 7 weeks. I called the local Citroen dealer and they said that as the car was registered in Sep 2019 the fist year service is late and asked me to book the car in for a service asap. I called the leasing company and they said that cars have variable service levels and that I should get it serviced.
I understand that car services are x amount of miles or 1 year in duration.....but (may be foolishly) I assumed that taking a 12 month lease deal deal would negate the need for me having to pay £200 for the first year service.
Is there anything that I can do, or is it a case of paying the £200 for the service?
Thanks

What does your lease say about servicing? Most will say that all manufacture recommended servicing must be done and done by a recognised garage... I have heard of others going further and saying that it must also be done if the message has started to come up etc even if there are X days left at the point of returning the vehicle. I did return mine just before its third b'day and so avoided the need to do either the service or MOT.
Given how far you are from the end of your lease, you are almost certainly going to have to pay for it... the cost of returning it in breach of the lease agreement will almost certainly be higher than the service cost.1 -
The service cycle starts on the day the vehicle is registered not when it starts being used. As it is now overdue you need to get it done sharpish as allowing it to go outside the leeway could cost you dearly.

Did the OP genuinely believe they leased a brand new car, or were they aware the price was to lease a pre-reg?0
