We used to have 4 buses an hour round here, and you could set your watch by them. They set off from the station at each quarter hour, and I knew to within a couple of minutes when to leave the house to catch the bus.  Then they changed to 'every 12 minutes approx', and now I just have to wait around until the bus turns up. So, fewer buses, running strictly to time, may actually be better.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I just want to say a genuine thank you to everyone for taking the time to reply.  I've taken all your input into consideration as well as going with my gut feeling.  After a second viewing on the house today, we've decided that the transport issue is really important so we're ruling out the whole area.
I know we've made the right decision because I actually feel relieved now I can stop the mental gymnastics of trying to make the location work.

You made the right decision. I recently bought a house in a dream location as opposed to a nicer house in a compromise location and I don’t regret it once. I have seen a few threads on here and the story is always the same, people regret compromising on location to get a better house.

I agree you made the right decision. Transport links was my main criterion when moving to London. Too much time standing at bus stops in the rain where I lived before so made sure I got it right this time. The kitchen is too small here but I'd rather have the tube on my doorstep than a bigger kitchen.
  • OP - definitely the right decision.

I bought with my then partner ( 1994) in a not so nice area, away from my family. I hated it and always wanted to move. We moved in 1999 to the road I live in now back near my family. Moved to the house opposite in 2001 as we loved the road so much. Location is 100% important ( and when I say location, I mean location that works for you not necessarily the “in” place)
    Good luck
