Apologies if this sounds a silly question.
Do you need a scart connector on a tv to connect a digibox or does it just work with an aerial and mains lead?

Depends on the box - if it has an RF out connecor, then you can just conect it to the aerial socket on your TV and it should work fine. Alternatively (there was is an item on the letters page of the current Radio Times (the one with Kylie and David Tennant on the cover, coincidentally!), if you have a Video recorder with scarts, you could connect the Freeview box to the scart in and watch Freeview channels on the Aux channel you use to watch tapes.

Your Freeview should be in the line between your aeiral and tv else you can't get a signal. Your Aerial should plug into your rf connection on your freeview box and then either your rf out or scart to your tv.0

all the ones ive ever seen have both scart and rf connections.
scart is the best method of connecting the equipment up.
but you can certainly watch freeview on your old telly with just the rf connector.
otherwise how would all those peeps in cumbria get their tv reception?
afaik: the government hasnt made them all replace all their tellys!Get some gorm.0 -
Be careful; some digiboxes (and VCRs for that matter!) only have passthrough RF sockets. The signal they generate is only available on the SCART output.
If your TV has audio inputs and a composite input (normally phono sockets), then you can use a SCART-to-Composite+Audio lead to connect them. Otherwise, you're pretty much reduced to using a VCR as an adaptor.0 -

MOST Freeview boxes have "Aerial loop-through" only. They do not add the Freeview output to it.
If you want one that does this, it must contain an "RF Modulator". See discussion here: http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?num=11962548960 -
The way I have done it before is to use an old vcr with a scart input as scart was more common on older vcrs. Then plug the tv to the vcr as normal.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0

Does anyone know if there is a list somewhere of which freeview boxes will work with a non-scart tv?0

All Freeview boxes have RF pass (shown above) though but only some more expensive boxes have an additional RF modulator, which means that the scart connector does not have to be used. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
