Hello All
my son is in the process of applying for the H2S scheme offered by the government.
However, they seem to be asking for details about a valid passport (his expired and he hasn't renewed it yet due to COVID) and a credit card / credit reference agency (he doesn't have a credit card) - he has already created a Government Gateway number / account.
Therefore, I was wondering how he would go about opening one without either of these - can it be done over the phone (and to which number) or does he need to renew his passport just to open one of these accounts?

Reference to credit card rings alarm bells, as there's no need for anything like that, is he sure he's definitely accessing the right website? Perhaps share URL and/or screenshot(s)?1

You need a Government Gateway user ID and password to apply. If you do not have a user ID, you can create one when you apply.
You’ll be asked to provide your UK bank details when you apply.
Double check where he is trying to do it.
