I've used Sandboxie for a few years now and find it a useful piece of software to have.
However, yesterday when trying to download a new version, I get a message from Microsoft telling me it's not a Microsoft approved app and it wont let me download it.
I still have an earlier version of Sandboxie on my PC, but when I now try to open the site on Google Chrome, a blank web page opens and I am unable to access the software.
Looking at the Sandboxie website it looks like changes have taken place...
https://www.sandboxie.com/
.....which have impacted it's usage, certainly from my point of view.
Just wondering if members can suggest any way of getting round the problem.
Thank you.

Clicking Here or the 64bit links takes me to the Sophos website. Software Export Compliance.
Name, email, job, etc etc.. I looked at that and thought quick way to kill a program, although they
have released the source to the general public.
Seems they may have blocked VPN users, using a VPN?

Links on sandboxie takes me to the sophos website where they want my info and some blood and
some kidneys and my first born for sacrifice or whatever reason they need my info.
Says Exporting Software, never seen that when installing Win 10. Maybe its just time?
Works in Firefox (old version) current Chrome but not in Opera unless I disable the inbuilt VPN.

A superb piece of security software but unfortunately in a state of flux at the moment.
The original (excellent) developer sold out around seven years ago and Sandboxie eventually ended up in the hands of Sophos who decided that Sandboxie didn’t fit their portfolio. The last “official” incarnation of Sandboxie is version 5.33.6 which is still available from Sandboxie/Sophos website and is the version I still use.At the moment it's working fine for me with Firefox, Opera, Slimjet and Brave browsers on Windows 7 but it looks as if a workaround will be needed to be compatible with the 86 build of Chrome and the continuing development of Windows 10.However, since Sophos released the source code an independent developer has taken up the project and released an (his) updated version, 5.43.6. On the surface this looks identical to the abandoned Sophos version and seems to be running fine on my test machine.I don’t use Windows 10 but as I recall don’t you have the choice under Apps and Features to deselect the Microsoft apps block and allow external apps?1 -

Yes I was able to do this, so thank you. Sadly it's still not working with my go-to browser, Google Chrome, but will check out others.0 -
Try the David Xantos developer version 5.43.6 which you can download from GitHub.
He’s solved the problem of Chrome 86 compatibility and as mentioned in my previous post it’s working fine so far. Link here…

Some interesting information given here which elaborates on the helpful advice given by Gillor....
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/727666/sandboxie-new-recommedations-for-free-alternative/
The website mentions the old Sandboxie appears to have split into different formats. I've been using SandboxieInstall64-v5.43.6, recommended by Gillor. However, as confirmed in the article, I'm finding using this version is being flagged as malware when I do an AV scan, apparently because it's not signed by its developer.
Before I download anything, I'm just wondering if members on here still use Sandboxie, and if so, which version, and do you encounter any problems?
Thank you.

I understand the driver issue is to do with the cost and availability of Microsoft EV certificates to private individuals. What a/v are you using?1

Yes, they are quite expensive. The company I work for bought one when we renewed our code signing certificate earlier this year.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230
