samsung r510 battery ?

hi, laptop battery does not hold charge for long, so until i get a new battery i am trying to use it without battery , plugged in all the time, however, it still turns off , even when plugged in after a short while.
so i am wondering whether its worth getting a new battery or not as there may be some other problem with it.
any advice appreciated
thanks

Depends on the quality of the cells in your new battery.  Lots of cheap and not so cheap batteries that are way below their
    rated spec.

................ as there may be some other problem with it.
    Perhaps (?) it's overheating.
Maybe the make and model would help someone to advise how to clean the fluff out of it .... and then, whilst you've got the back off it, maybe fit an SSD? ;)

Google for Samsung NP-R510 service manual if you are willing to dismantle / part dismantle.

First  give it a jolly good hoover out / clean-up as it is probably not the battery that is the issue (use the built in battery meter after having left it all on charge for a few hours). Best to leave the battery connected anyway.  Use something like the FREE version of cpuid's HWMonitor https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html and it will likely tell you what temperatures bits internally are running at, and the battery 'wear level'.  Then you can determine where to focus your attention on fixing the problem.

A common shutdown cause is overheating CPU - the fan may be faulty or blocked or the thermal paste between cpu and heatsink dried out over time.

SWMBO's Samsung NP-350 battery was down to 50% of its original capacity and got replaced recently with a larger, higher capacity one (and benefited the lappy by a tilt up at the rear to increase airflow through).  I gave it a thorough clean out when dismantled to install a SSD in place of the HDD, recently following the new battery, but it was remarkably clean (we do hoover the air vents occasionally).

I think its overheating as tv remote was next to it and when I moved it, it was quite hot.
I do not have a new battery as yet, I have just took the old one out , to try and use it just with the mains lead.
