TP-LINK TAPO are as neat as you can get (and shouldn't burn the house down; beware the ultra-cheap imported ones).

I use TP-LINK Plugs......I find them reliable and easy to set up.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

TP-Link here also, Use the KASA app or link to Amazon Echo etc.
Only issue I get is if the power goes down they try to connect before the router has started, just
need to power then off and on after the router has reset.
1st time it happened i went through the re-connect process until it clicked they try and connect
before the router was online.

note TPlink Kasa uses a different APP than the Tapo version.
I found TPLink KASA more versatile but they are slightly more expensive1 -
Would these be any good as a cheap alternative, or would you avoid - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gosund-Wireless-Function-Monitoring-Required/dp/B07ZSDWQQ8/ref=sr_1_1_mod_primary_lightning_deal0

I went with the TP-Link after finding out my previous plugs had been recalled for a fire risk. Sold by CPC who also
sells to trade etc. So not ebay cheapy no name items.
Rebranded and sold by many, think Argos and B&Q also sold the same units under other brand names.
After that i decided to buy proper units.

I might go for the TPlink ones then but I'll keep an eye out on the Prime Day deals over the next couple of days to see if any of them get discounted further.0

Prime "Day" has started, so get looking.
I had a quick look but couldn't see any TP-Link units on deal. Closest I found was:
