Easiest way is through your own bank.  Unfortunately US $ cheque processing is a cumbersome and drawn out process.  Can take many weeks if it's drawn on some regional bank outfit in the back of beyond.

I've recieved a payour for a being defrauded by Alibaba and I paid by Western Union. So it's from the American Government.

Who the cheque is from makes no difference in the process of clearing it.
If you have a good credit file at your bank they may exchange the cheque for you and you would get the funds within a week - if your record is not so good they would send it for collection - 6 weeks at least to wait.

Also, check the bank charges for clearing a non sterling cheque , I found there was a great difference when I asked two different banks that I had accounts with.

  • There's a few threads about people trying to cash US stimulus cheques in recent weeks, which might be worth searching for and having a read. The consensus is that there isn't really a cheap way to do this, so check your bank(s) for how much they are going to charge before you deposit it and use whichever has the lowest fees.
