NSandI has a month backlog

Trying to register to get a statement of premium bonds.  Called 3 times (wait is 30 mins a pop).  They cannot help.  They cannot post me out a statement (strange, that one).  Even though the website instructs me to call them (because it won't let me register - even with my bondholder number) they cannot help me get a login.  They all tell me that there is a month backlog for dealing with enquiries.  They have my money and I can't do anything about it.  Not dire for me, but perhaps Boris is strapped for cash and this is a delaying tactic.  Pretty horrendous that one cannot access your own money.  Perhaps I'll say the same at the end of Jan... sorry, you are in a queue... I'll get to your payment as soon as I can.  LOL.  Anyway - this is just a warning for anyone thinking of putting money in.  You can't get it out in a hurry, so be warned :)

I've never had to ring them, but have full access. How come you are in that situation?

They had problems at the start of the month. Withdrawals weren't working, and it wasn't clear whether the transaction would be completed once the system was back up again. It seems not.
Also, I suspect more people are thinking of moving their money out than putting money in, as their rates will drop next month.

I have happily been making withdrawals in the last few days. These were processed as per the normal withdrawal times.

There is nothing horrendous about NS&I, and no reason to think you cannot get your money out. Although I wouldn't wait with withdrawals until the day before the interest rates drop.

If you hadn't previously registered with them, you were presumably happy dealing with them by post. There's no indication they have stopped doing that. I don't think "they have my money and I can't do anything about it" is really accurate.

Your post is a bit confusing given you start by complaining that you can't get a statement, but end up complaining that you can't get your money out. I made an application by post to cash in my bonds abot a month ago. The money was in my bank account about 10 days later.
