how much are you hoping to pay? from expedia it looks like flights are around £550-£600... however looking on XL.com you can get a flight to orlando for around £390 (using the discount code posted on this page) then an amtrak train to tampa won't cost you much, (just had a look $10 each way) though will take you a few hours, you might want to consider that most flights to tampa aren't direct so you may actually save time flying to orlando.

I'd also look at the Orlando option but then I would rent a car. The drive from Orlando to Tampa is pretty straightforward.
No reliance should be placed on the above.

Unfortunately the summer is high season and flights are stupid prices. I have looked at most sites and found the same problems. £550 plus

Florida is great in Oct-Nov, and quite cheap.

Orlando is the main airport in the centre of the theme parks area. Sanford Orlando Intl. Airport is ~ 20 miles north (further away from Tampa). It is where all the charter flights fly into and would add ~ 30 mins. to your journey to Tampa.
