Upgrading to Sky Q

Hi all

I'm looking to upgrade to Sky Q (it's currently a free upgrade for me).

The question I have is, what happens to the programs I've got recorded on the current HD box?
Is there any way of transferring these to the new box?

We've got a lot of stuff currently recorded (we haven't had time to watch some of the series due to working full time) but we don't want to lose it.

Anyone any ideas?

TIA

Richard

There's no way I know of to transfer stuff to another box.

Either redownload if on demand / boxsets or its gone

  • Some might dispute that Sky Q is an upgrade ......... ;)

That aside, my understanding is that it's an entirely different platform so recordings are not cross-compatible.

but we don't want to lose it.

If the old HD box fails you will lose it anyhow, time to binge watch perhaps?
  • As an aside ... you don't have to return the HD box. Will you lose access to the recordings once you "upgrade"?

Yes, you wont be able to pair the new card. Old card deactivated All recording are lost going to q  As an after thought if you have freestat in your house ask for it to be left in place on your dish. other wise the new line will not allow this.

You need to have a working satellite connection in order to view saved recordings.

@rmg1 there's juts now way around this, you should start binge watching whatever shows you want to watch or make sure you can download or stream them later as a catchup because you won't be able to transfer them.

  • How does the box authenticate the viewing card? Is it via the satellite connection or actually via the Internet connection?
