Notice rules

My landlord has my rental house for sale. He says he has bought a new property and that I can move into that when that sale is complete. He has not given me any notice as yet. If the house I currently live in, is sold and the sale completed before the other property is ready, what are my rights? I'm not sure whether to trust him or not. Does he still have to give me notice, can the new owners force me out, and how much notice should I be given? My contract states, 2 months, but I thought that I read somewhere, that due to Covid, notice periods had increased to 6 months? Sorry for the long post, thank you in advance.

Basically if you choose, you'll be there until 2022. It's as simple as that.
I suggest the LL will be paying you a significant amount of money to facilitate this sale (5k sounds reasonable)0 -

* the sale of your current property only affects your tenancy in one way: you get a new landlord. The existing tenancy continues. The new landord/owner can evict you in exactly the same was as your current landlord (see below).* currently S21 Notices (for eviction) must expire after 6 months. After that, the LL can apply to court to end the tenancy. This applies to the new LL and the current LL. (see link below). Given the current backlog of court cases, that adds another 6 months....* The current LL can only realistically sell if either a) he first evicts you (see above) or b) you end the tenancy yourself and leave or c) he sells to another landlord with you still there (see above) or d) he re-houses you, with your consent* If the current LL offers you an alternative property, you do not have to agree to move there. Of course, if you like the new property, and are happy to move, then you can agree, but get in writing first the full details concerned eg date of ending current tenancy and start of new one, rent etc You can then 'surrender' your existing tenancy.Post 4: Ending/renewing an AST: what happens when a fixed term ends? Solicitors advise, it's up to their clients what risks they want to take. It is of course pretty commonplace to exchange contracts while a property is occupied!foxy-stoat said:
