Spares/repairs ebay return advice needed

If I buy something that's not working, I expect all of the parts that you could use "as spares" to be present, unless the seller said otherwise.
The description of "Not working" amply covers bits being missing. Back when I still did, I sold an old 8-track cart player untested (I had no tapes for it!), listed as "Not working" and spares/repair and untested in the description. The buyer opened a case, saying someone had modified it (he never explained how) internally, but eBay threw it out. I certainly wouldn't be refunding the buyer.

It seems a good way for a dodgy buyer to get a free of charge spare part for something that they already have but which needs repairing.
Buy a "spares or repair" item and when it arrives, take out the bit they need then open a dispute stating that it either didn't work when received or that bits were missing.
I'm not saying that this is what happened here but it does appear to be an easy thing to do.0 -
Why would a scammer buy a "spares or repairs" item to do that? Makes more sense for them to buy a second-hand (or new) working item, swap their broken part for a good part, and then claim that the item wasn't working when it arrived. Unfortunately it happens all the time.DiddyDavies said:Buy a "spares or repair" item and when it arrives, take out the bit they need then open a dispute stating that it either didn't work when received or that bits were missing.
