Ryanair - screen scraper website scam!

I booked a holiday to Malta via Loveholidays in July, travel was in November.  The outbound flight was with Ryanair, inbound with Easyjet.
The Ryanair flight was rescheduled by a day so I cancelled (the whole holiday was subsequently cancelled).
Ryanair offered a voucher, I declined and requested a cash refund.  They referred me to a verification form as I has booked through a Screen Scraper Website (Lovefilm) and advised they will refund me directly.  However, when I enter the details of the booking it displays a message saying it cannot be recognised, even though all the data is entered correctly.
I tried to contact Ryanair for help but of course, I can't contact them!
This feels like another scam to get Customers to accept vouchers.

does the reference work in manage my booking on the Ryanair site? If not it is likely that you need to ask LoveHolidays for the Ryanair booking reference...maybe the one you are using is a LoveHolidays reference or they have provided you with the wrong reference.
The fact Ryanair have introduced this screen scraper process is more than they need to do, you did not book with them and are not their customer, they could easily just refer you back to deal with LoveHolidays
  • Am confused.  You booked a holiday with Love Holidays?  Just hotel? Not flights?   You also cancelled first?   Presumably t’s and c’s permitted this due to late booking?    Also, Presumably Ryanair told you lovefilm would refund you direct?  In that case Ryanair won’t deal with you at all (unless you want to receive a voucher)  They will refund the agents and agents will refund you.  The perils of using third  parties.   Never actually heard of this company.

Ryanair have actually introduced a process to be able to refund passengers direct and bypass the screen scrapers
    https://www.ryanair.com/gb/en/refundfaqs/screenscraperbookings#!
this would apply for cancelled flights

if you paid for your flights via loveholidays, your contract is with loveholidays, ryanair has no contract with you.
who told you ryanair offered you a voucher? was it ryanair themselves?

Ahhh. I see.  Thanks for that info. Never heard of screen savers.  Hope it all works out OP.
  • It's not a scam, it's because the screenscrapers have some information they enter (payment details etc) pertaining to them - meaning your information won't match.

The word 'scam' has to be the most innacurately bandied-about term this century.

"Screenscraper" is the software or web code the OTAs use behind the scenes. Ryanair only sell tickets via their own website, so when LoveHolidays or the other agents show you Ryanair flights, there is background code/software that is searching on the Ryanair website and then displaying you the options. Likewise with the booking process.

To the OP... First reply from Caz is a good suggestion, check you are actually using the Ryanair booking reference. If you definitely are, then there will be a reason it's not working, perhaps it's already been refunded to LoveHolidays. You can get in touch with Ryanair via web chat, sometimes there is a long wait but I've found they do answer in the end.

Failing that, you booked the holiday with LoveHolidays and paid them. They cancelled the holiday, you could ask them for the refund and let them deal with Ryanair.

What on earth do Lovefilm have to do with this? I assume that is a colossal typo?
  • LOL 😂 TYPO?  Of course!  (Must wake up before posting). Bahaha
