BA Future Travel Voucher Refund

Hi all,

We had a flight booked with BA at the beginning of July 2020. Due to the obvious, we chose to accept the future travel voucher at the end of April. The voucher is a pretty good value £2.5k but we are not going to to be in a position to use it before it expires.

Can anyone help as to how we can get our £2.5k back, or at least most of it?

Thanks a lot.

As soon as you accept a voucher, the original circumstances leading up to that are superseded, so it's effectively as if you chose to buy a gift voucher and it can't be exchanged for cash.

At the time you accepted a voucher had your flights been cancelled by the airline? if not then your option would have been a refund as per the fare rules of the ticket (usually some taxes) or the voucher
you could possibly ask for an extension to the date but the vouchers are not generally exchangeable for cash.

You are going to struggle with this.
Book flights to use it up and hope they get cancelled, which would entitle you to a refund.

Pretty sure that you'd just get another FTV back in that scenario.

BA have generally been one of the better companies in this whole mess for refunds and flexibility, however once you've accepted a voucher rather than a cash refund, it's extremely unlikely that you will get your money back again...

You do realise you've got until April 2022 to use the voucher?

You get the choice of another FTV, a refund to the same card you used to make the original booking or a refund in Avios.
Of course, that relies on the flight being cancelled.

For anyone interested, I had an email from BA earlier for my Future Travel Voucher (booked 2019 for 2020) which I accepted back in 2020 cause of Covid. They are automatically refunding the amount paid and my avois (they said within 4 weeks). Avois already recredited a few hours after the email and had 2nd email confirming payment refunded to card.

Very efficient, even though I would have been happy to hold on til 2023 :)

Very pleased to hear this. We have a four figure sum tied up in a FTV, be great if they refund it!
