I came across your post today whilst searching the internet as I have literally just purchased the Denon D-M41DAB (with the Denon speakers) after reading all the 5 star reviews and like you I'm quite underwhelmed. Having read the suggestions I wonder what you decided to do? I had an old Technics stereo system and the sound was brilliant but like yours, it too was ready for the skip as the 5 disc cd player had started jumping all over the place and tape doesn't work any more. Would really appreciate knowing what you did to solve your problem. TIA.0

Hi All
I realise I'm incredibly late to this party but for the benefit of anyone finding their way here, here's are my thoughts...
What Hi-Fi awarding this system a winner is justified, having acquired one a couple of years back. However, I very much disagree with their faith Denon's own SC-M41 speakers. After being just mildly satisfied with the sound, I ditched the speakers for Dali Spektor 2. What a difference! It's no wonder that Richer Sounds don't even list the system with Denon's own dedicated speaker.-2 -
I reassembled my hifi gear after a long time boxed up, Found the sound terribly muffled and tried all sorts of things to improve it Next thing I found myself watching TV with the subtitles on. Hearing aids now :-(3

As an aside, the only problem I've had is my homemade CDs don't read reliably. I've contacted Denon and reset the hifi to factory state but the problem remains.0

If home made cds are written on a computer using a dvd writer then that can be an inferior wrote...Plus there can be a slight misalignment that causes issues.Best written type is an audio CD for a CD player and compressed files can be problematic.I have found writing with good software wav or flac files into audio CD format works well mostly....So lots of variables as well as the physical CD's quality....1
