For electricity, I'm paying 12.11343p/kWh plus a standing charge of 13.2825p/day, inc VAT.
For electricity, you're paying 17.5035p/kWh plus a standing charge of 23.065p/day, inc VAT.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For gas, I'm paying 2.0265p/kWh plus a standing charge of 28.497p/day, inc VAT.
For gas, you're paying 3.6309p/kWh plus a standing charge of 27.342p/day, inc VAT.

I compared using Citizens Advice and 'Switch with Which?', to see all available tariffs.  I selected separate suppliers because it's cheaper than dual fuel.
No, I'm not pointing fingers nor blowing my own trumpet, just telling it how it is.  Don't shoot the messenger !
    • TL;DR: Your bills are massive because you chose an uncompetitive tariff and then let it roll over to the rip-off standard variable rate.  You chose dual fuel.  All BIG mistakes.

I'm having a dispute with EDF. I believe there is something wrong with our electricity meter, but EDF aren't having any of it. For 9 months (249 days) EDF have said we have used £ 819.87 worth of electricity only which equates to 4948kwh. We have nothing fancy, we live in a small 3 bed end of terrace house, no hot tubs etc. We have worked throughout lockdown so haven't been at home any more than usual. We are in debt with them.
Can someone tell me of this is normal usage?

    Thank you
    Sorry not enough info.

All electric or gas central heating?

What was the reading from 9 months ago and what is the reading on meter now?

What tariff, what pence per kWh, what daily standing charge?

Are bills estimated, E. do you provide actual monthly readings A ?

Please provide photo of last bill with personal details blanked out and photo of meter with current reading.
Recent bill posted above. Thank you
    Thank you, crossed posts.
Your electric etc  went onto the standard variable tariff 1st April rising from 12.94 pence to 16.67 pence 3.73 pence per kWh increase? Plus VAT at 5%

Did you not compare to get better deal away from EDF ?

I pay 12.167 per kWh with Symbio.  Aqua here is 12.535 kWh
First suggest putting your annual kW used into here for E.G. https://energycompare.citizensadvice.org.uk/

If you can take photo of meter with reading?

Look around your house to make savings. Room by room.

halogen bulbs in kitchen to LED etc. tumble dryer/ washing machine / do you have backup immersion heater left switched on

A house with gas hot water & heating shouldn't be using that much electricity. Can you confirm there's no water immersion heater in use. I pay 10.9p per kWh by the way!

3242kwh since April at 3.73p/kwh extra for allowing it to roll over onto the SVT has increased your bill by £121 without even trying. Just one penny a kwh makes about £50-£60 a year difference to your costs if you dont reduce your consumption. The extra penny a kwh on your gas also added another £30 so you've manage to increase your costs by around £150 since April by doing nothing.

'm like some of the others and only paying around 12p/kwh and 13p/day s/c. - you really must get yourself onto a better tariff

You also need to put a lot more effort into reading your meter, sending in readings and checking your bills - At least quarterly but ideally every single month. When you know what you are using and how much it's costing you can investigate whats using it all. It's too late to do much about when the bill comes in, especially if you leave it for 8-9 months.

Most people with gas central heating and GAS hot water would use between 8-10kwhw a day, 300kwh a month = approx 3000-3500kwh a year. Yours appears to be significantly above average although if you are using an immersion heater rather than the gas boiler you are spending more than you need to to heat your hot water - .
Likewise have you got an electric shower and spend a long time in it every day

That's good some houses have them as back up and forget or turn them on by accident.

You are really on a bad tariff, it is costing you £££ letting it roll onto a standard tariff ??? Well that can be fixed.

Get your annual usage  in kWh and put into the CAB site or Which site. There is a button to let you choose electric only or gas only comparison. when the dual energy prices pop up.

So dual first best deal that suits, write down gas / electric cost etc. Then do gas. then do electric and compare per kWh

Do the numbers against the dual tariff.

Are you absolutely 110% certain there's no immersion heater?  It's quite rare not to have one as a backup.  It may be hidden behind the hot tank's jacket or whatever.  What happens if the gas turned off at the meter - do you still get hot water?  If there's an immersion heater (or two) then it may be doing most of the work, especially if its thermostat is set higher than that for gas.
Similarly, instantaneous electric showers are a big NoNo.
