Council tax reduction query

Being a single occupier in my own home I claim the 25% council tax reduction. My son and his partner have just been told their landlord is selling the property they are renting and they have been given notice to quit. They now want to move to live closer to me and buy their first property. The plan is for them to live with me short term, 3/4 months at most while they search for a property to buy. Will this affect my council tax reduction and do I have to notify the council of this temporary change? Thanks.

If they move in with you then you will not be a single occupier will you ??
So you have answered your own question really.
Ring or email your local council for the definitive answer.

I'd have said yes from what i've read.
You will no longer be a single occupier and it's more than possible that you will be reported. This would mean trouble for you.
If you are worried about the money could you split the difference between you and your son (partner may stay/may go it's not legal) so it doesn't take too much out of their coffers. They should know that this is costing you and it's possible they will be there longer.
I'd visit the council offices and see what it entails to change and then to re establish your single status again so you don't have the worry.

Yes it will, and yes you do. Councils are used to this kind of temporary change in arrangements so you should have no trouble getting the correct payment calculated and the single occupier allowance reinstated when they move out. Chances are they can notify the council tax changes at the same time as registering to vote.
