Zafira judders at times when going into 1st gear

Hi
Hoping someone can help with some advice. Ive got a.2013 Vauxhall Zafira Tourer - automatic gearbox. The car at times judders when going down into first gear (when im slowing down) or when im starting off the and pressing the accelerator the revs go up high and then the car judders and moves into first gear. The problem is this does not happen all the times or most days - only some times. However i have noticed when i have driven the car for a long time it happens more during those times. Does anyone have any experiance or advice on why this might be happening. There is no engine management light on.
I would really appreciate the help

Thanks

  • First thing I would do is check the automatic transmission fluid level.

  • Thanks Greyteam
My car doesnt have a dip stick to check as its a sealed unit. Looks like ill have to take it to a garage to check

Fingers crossed it is something simple !!
  • @ian99_2 - did you find out what was the cause for the judder in first gear? And how did you fix it? Mine is also doing this now, especially on long journeys. We changed the transmission fluid but this did not help. Thank you

Given that the OP hasn't been on here since they posted this 3-and-a-half years ago, I wouldn't hold your breath for an answer :)

However if the fluid was original and has been in the gearbox for years it may need more than just a flush and top up.  New fluid won't help if any internal filters and/or screens are blocked.

You don't change engine oil without changing the filter, a gearbox is no different.

Many thanks @daveyjp for your reply. Filters have been changed as well, and did not solve the problem. Any other ideas? Thanks
