in searching for free screenings I've come across the free members screenings for picturehouses across the country but you have to pay to be a member
they must have decided to open up ths screenng to non-members....maybe they do this with all their screenings.
Actually - and remember I was eavesdropping!!! - the person on the ticket desk said that they have some tickets, but that 'commercial partners' (or maybe it was commercial sponsors?) get some tickets too. He also said something about how some managers will give out tickets to members even when they have given out their allocation.
I might not have the whole story though! I was meant to be listening to someone else at the time!0 -

There is another screening for York Picturehouse members next week - My Brother is an Only Child. But I think that this was what the peope at the ticket desk were discussing - all tickets may have gone. Last week it was (again I was eavesdropping, but this time on two people who were leaving the cinema!) the film about Lars and the blow up doll (cannot remember the name exactly).
The membership fee includes three 'free' tickets, and a discount on all tickets after this, so I guess it pretty much pays for itself for people who regularly pay for tickets. I think only members can get the free screening tickets, (it says one per person), but I do not know how rigid this policy is.0 -
If only members got the free screenings, then they wouldn't have admitted us yesterday to Son of Rambow. These are exactly the same screenings that end up on See Film First, which in my mind makes the Picturehouse membership deal not too attractive, although if someone is a regular cinema goer, they get discounted tickets as well. I remember that the lady at the ticket counter yesterday had to go and fetch special tickets for us (the See Film Firsters) as the members get different looking tickets or something, but all of us were admitted to that same screening.Reclaimed thanks to this site:

yup I'm a member at my local indepent as well as going to all the free screenings from here. It cost £27 for the year and for that you get two free tickets (worth £12.40) being on the mailings list so the monthly programme is sent to you (worth £3), 70p discount off tickets and new films opening on a friday are £2. By going most fridays I've easily made back the money on the membership fee. There are always films that aren't going to come up as free screenings and sometimes it works out cheaper for me to go on a friday because it's walking distance than a 'free' film at cineworld or Vue as the tram is £3.0

I see. I apologise if I seemed dismissive about the membership deal.Reclaimed thanks to this site:

I only decided to become a member last year when I realised how much money I was spending on full price tickets...I like going to see foreign language films and they don't tend to ever get cheap when on DVD (or come out on DVD at all) so it's best to catch them at the cinema.0 -
I agree with Elski5 - London has more screenings than many places (although I bet they all go quickly). When I see how many Beate has been to, there is no way that there are so many near me. (Beate - you must surely be on target for the 104 screenings!)
I've not seen the Picturehouse screenings last week and next week posted her or promoted elsewhere, so it could be a good deal to join.0
