O/S Daily Saturday 10 October 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light and dry underfoot at the moment.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was chicken and leek pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight not sure what we'll be having - but plenty in.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I did get some jobs done.
Today will be chilled. Back to work on Monday.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC. Enjoy your days off.I must do a bit of shopping today, not a lot needed though. I would like to go to Li*l, there's one a short car ride away at a nice shopping centre which also has the other biggies, N*xt, M&S, and others. I used to go there on the bus and spend a few hours mooching, haven't done it this year.I was also going through clothes with a view to charity shopping a few, and trying to persuade DH to get rid of things he has never worn at all - they hang in his wardrobe, he looks at them now and again, says he'll wear them, looks at them now and again, says he'll wear them, you get the picture !!That's all really, not a lot happening here, not a lot to report.Hope everyone has a good Saturday, take care folks.13

Good morning and thank you for starting us off nmlc.
Yesterday I did a bath towel wash, they got almost completely dry on the line too, they have been on racks overnight.
Today I'm not planning anything much. The days just run into each other but I like Saturdays as the Times is more interesting and has the big crossword for me to get totally stuck with.
It really is cold. I have been out with birdseed and will probably put some more out as they have had most of it already. So far I've seen pigeons, not the baby one yet, a sparrow, robins and bluetits plus one of the squirrels. Yesterday the bird table was starting to wobble quite a bit so I've been at it with a screwdriver. I don't think it will last long though, it was a cheap one. Not really great value.
Still haven't found the hooks.
Couldn't get in the shed as the rain has swollen the door so I pruned a shrub with the second best kitchen scissors, I do need to get OH to open it for me, he can reach the top of the door, which is the usual way of getting it open in wet weather. I need the garden fork to give the compost a turn. And the lawn rake, leaves everywhere. And my pruning saw.
I think we have more restrictions coming but not sure what exactly they will be.
I hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
AOD, I used to buy the Times on Saturday for the Samurai Sudoku (5 sudokus linked in a cross shape) but now I just buy the books of them, it works out much cheaper.
I've been awake since 6 but finished the book I'm reading before getting up. I spent the last couple of days rearranging the kitchen, then deciding that I didn't like it and moving it all back. The problem is the microwave, we've now established that there is only one spot where it doesn't dominate the space which is stupid because it's a big kitchen with lots of worktop. I'd like to replace it because it's a combination one with an oven and so is a lot bigger than just a microwave but (and this is the money saving part of my post as per the new rules, Monna) it's a good one with a lot of life in it so I can't justify the replacement.
The children are meeting in Cambridge today, it's about half-way between their homes. It's nearer for us but I know Laura is worried about infection for us so I will be good and not go to meet them as well, despite wanting to see Esben. Lauraa has plans to go up to the Yorkshire house for his birthday next month but the infection rate up there is much higher than down here although that area hasn't been put in lockdown yet. Who knows what will happen in the next few weeks.

Morning all
Thanks for the thread Nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
I'm helping at an outdoor jumble sale today so I hope it stays dry.

Morning lovelies
Grey miserable and cold here ....the weathers pretty bad too
Poor Asda man was soaked through but still smiling. No missing or subs so the fresh stuff is plentiful again. Eating mostly out of the second freezer this week so cooked ham out for something creative tonight and a roast tomorrow. Got a bottle of Baileys too which is on offer for £12. Might get a couple over the next couple weeks for pressys and obvs some for me
Started on the glass cupboard so have cleared about half and now have some space (maybe for bargain baileys) Need to do the other shelf in there today but already pretty much filled the bin already and with the lack of charity collections now I need to slow it down. Have some calls to make today then I think the heating will go on and netflix will take over
Have a good day all and keep smiling14 -
Morning all!SUnny and very very brrrr! this morning. It is the day of the build finishing, or mostly finishing anyway. I can't belive how nippy it is. My face was cold when I woke up this morning thanks to not our cat sitting on my side and kneading my shoulder and my fingers are cold as I type. I've just put the heating on because I've given in....I did a good bit of decluttering yesterday, the porch is no longer home to the barbecue [don't ask] and numerous other things I don't need, under the stairs has had an emptying [needed space for the jars of salsa] and a table has disappeared from the living room [it was just providing somehwere for boxes to sit on]. This slob comes clean business has finally spoken to me in a way that Marie Kondo or other methods never did. Look out books, here I come....Next week though, not today...Meanmarie,good to hearyou're improving. snoozer, that soundedlike smashing good fun
and I used to get the independent for the sudokus, or at least nab it in the work canteen to do them. Hester, enjoy the lodge and hot tub when you go! Hope it stays dry for you. AOD, hope you get in the shed soon! Nelski, Baileys is so easy to drink with ice, it just disappears, you probably can't have too much
Hey all reading along, and commiserations to those in lockdown or some form of it, I wish the instructions were cleaerer, I still haven't got a clue what's supposed to be happening where except sixpeople can have a karaoke night or something..or maybe not..Anyway, stay safe Saturday.....

Morning All
It's brightening up here after the overnight rain, bedding on the line and the dressing gowns and bath mats are just about to finish. There's a white load to go in but that takes ages so I'll leave that chugging away while I go shopping.
I had the flu jag yesterday, had a sore arm last night and felt a bit 'off' this morning but not too bad. I've been to the corner shop to buy crispy rolls as a breakfast treat for being a brave little soldier yesterday!
Glad to hear you're doing well MM, keep going!
I can raise you on the destructive front - my Dad bought my brother and I airguns when we were about 10, we shot all the teracotta plant pots and the heads off the dhalias! We'll not mention the scar on my arm but it is airgun related!
DS1 and the DGC were going to come over today but he phoned last night to say they had a bit of a runny nose so not sure what's happening yet.
Have a good weekend, take care. XX10 -
Morning all
Its bright and sunny here but very cold, thick socks and fleece on this morning, I have got a towel load in the wm and will hang them out for a while hopefully they will dry a bit.
Taking our pup to have her jabs and a health check this morning might nip into Lidl on the way back as its really close, dont need much but need wine and some ham which was missing from my delivery.
Dinner tonight is steak for OH and I, with chips garlic mushrooms and roasted tomatoes, DD will have halloumi with hers.
When we get back from the vets we are going to clear out the little shed, its more of a log store relly but has become a dumping ground over the summer and i want to get a load of logs in incase we go into another lockdown.
Housework today and same as Nels this afternoon fire on and netflix.
Thinking of Marie and glad you are recovring well.
Have good days all xx12 -
Morning all.
I'm looking around at my wreck of a house, turned upside down and inside out yesterday in the futile effort to find my Christmas Stocking knitting. I really should start sorting it out, but as AOD has already pointed out it is Saturday, newspaper day and puzzle day. Sadly the house-putting-to-rights will have to wait.
Nelski, your mention of Bailey's makes me realise that it is getting near to the C word. In the days when I was running a school, teaching full time, bringing up 2 teenage boys on my own and supervising the unofficial youth hostel that my home seemed to have turned into, I was on my knees most of the time. Looking back I wonder how someone of my indolent nature survived. However, when faced with the dreaded C word, both at school and at home, I felt I would crumble. On the 1st December a dear friend gave me a bottle of Baileys with instructions to use it in my coffee instead of milk. I did, and that little touch of luxury throughout the day really kept me going. After that she did the same thing every year. This must have started 35 years ago and I have been retired for 21 of those years. She departed this life some years ago, but I still have Baileys in my coffee from the 1st December every year in her memory.
How I love these rambles down memory lane.
Glad you reminded me snoozer. MoneySaving...........Don't go into shops. Don't even go near shops.
That do monitors?
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Grandmas are just antique little girls.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13 -
Morning folks.I've been out doing the Saturday shop, though in terms of MSE I bought three YS items! I also collected a holdall from Argos and took bags of stuff to the tip.A police officer called me early this morning to complete my report of the vandalised tyre, had a nice chat with the chap who logged everything. Now off to unpack the shopping. DM's friend is coming again today - they were both so sad last week, he doesn't go out anywhere and neither does she. I'll lay out the cakes etc and steer clear. As he lives alone his visit is within the rules.Happy Saturday to all - I hope that whatever you're up to it's good.11
