On the bright side, you get plenty of personal space when out shopping or using public transport - I know I do after spending just two weeks up in the mountainsphoebe1989seb said: Anyway, the end is in sight and sometime within the next couple of weeks I might be able to take a bath for the first time in 2 years 9 months
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Yes Dave, I think this will be our last one too......in an ideal world we'd have loved to do a self-build project like Doozer, but I doubt we'll ever get round to it nowDavesnave said:Well done phoebe for being brave enough to post your latest journey, illustrating some of the choices you've made.
As you know, we've also lived-in whilst renovating, but we really couldn't face another! Probably age and infirmity has something to do with it, as it seems such a waste to learn so much and not apply that knowledge elsewhere.I'd guess in most cases the first big project will not go entirely right. We're picking up some bits from major errors next week, and in the months to come there will be a few more alterations. It's only money!
I think you're lucky having similar tastes, especially as you're much bolder than we are. For the sake of harmony, I've let my OH lead in the choices. In the one place where we had equal input, things didn't work out.
Anyway, to pinch someone else's user name, good to see the dream being chased and actually captured.
Hmmmm.....I'll believe that when you're still there 5 years from now!
Self build, eh? I have a barn you can convert. I don't want to do it and the kids don't want it. From what I read, the government have relaxed the rules again and it's now no longer necessary to have a fire.
Indeed, it may now be possible to knock the whole thing down and rebuild on the footprint.
Just thinking out loud. Mind you, the view is terrible!

No they're thatchers, with a small t. Not a handbag in sight. We've visited the Naked Gardeners at Malmesbury and we even sold them some plants once, assuming you mean Ian Pollard and Barbara Haworth. They weren't cavorting naked with the secateurs on the day we visited, which was probably a good thing. This sculpture down by the Avon made me smile:

Just wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy New Year
Let's hope it's a brighter, healthier one for all!
Also, to say a huge thank you to anyone who has begun following our renovation progress on Instagram!
We have big plans for the cottage this year - including building a garden-facing living room extension and knocking through the existing two reception rooms to make one brighter space! Firstly we need to get the upstairs finished and finally bring the washing machine indoors, into a custom laundry cupboard under the stairs.....
For now, a couple of recent pics.....
Finally got the kitchen to a colour scheme we're both happy with!
The snug, complete with quirky rug we bought as a joint Christmas gift for each other.......
