Combining our share of a will?

Wow...thanks for all the help!0

The real issue here is the executor gets to decide what happens within the terms of the will not the beneficiaries.
If the will allows for the house to be sold nothing can be done to stop that if the executor decides to sell.

JaneCubit said:Wow...thanks for all the help!If you take the advice (not to get mum to write this into her will) then you certainly should be grateful.Aside from any other considerations, its wholly impractical, the dead (your mother, hopefully not for some considerable time to come) cannot and certainly should not, specify what the living should do.By asking for it to be written into a will you are trying to fix in stone an idea that one or more of you may hate at a future date. Or simply find awkward, impractical, not what they want to do any more "well tough luck kiddo thats what mum commanded in the will". Heck, maybe you wont want it.And what happens then? How do you get out of that? IANAL but i doubt if such a bequest in a will would even be legal but if it is then you are really screwed. As to "we are all in agreement", well the 15 year old cannot agree to it, the 18 year old no doubt doesn't understand, maybe light will dawn for the 22 year old that a very modest income, if there is such, will be wholly negated by losing their FTB eligibility. This is the worst idea since some Greeks said "hey look at that awesome wooden horse lets pull it inside and party like its BCE 1151"

I was going to suggest showing your children this thread to see if they still agreed with what was undoubtedly your suggestion in the first place. But I now think that they would probably feel guilty if they went against your wishes, so just stop discussing it with them and leave your mother alone.0
