Halifax argh!!! im nearly in tears

Im absolutlely gutted

i have been gfetting my xmas presents since august and finally finished monday. was so proud i had done it and was really chuffed. kept checking my bank at regular periods both online and at cash point to check what i had.

i have a basic bank account due to be being on a DMP and was under the impression i cant go overdrawn and if i spent money it should not let me take anything out or spend money. just logged in today to check and im £8.92 overdrawn, im fuming and nearly in tears. ive tried to be so good then they do this to me. i have a trip arranged next tuesday that has been planned for a long time and had £30 to cover the petrol costs. now i have to use this to rectify the problem. which has annoyed me to say the least.

stupid banks, what right do they have to do this, surely i cant get charged cos i shouldnt be allowed to go overdrawn. the payments that came out are paypal payments i bought stuff on ebay for

Thanks if your still reading

hi sweetie you ok? go find that kettle and make yourself a nice hot cuppa.
Now, with halifax, have you had any charges applied to your account within the last 8 months to a year? if not they are usually very understanding and will refund a charge once per year.
You have done amazingly well in your journey so far by the looks of it, don't allow this to trip you!!! scrable around in coat pockets, change jars, back of sofas and find as much cash as you can to put towards the amount your overdrawn. yes the rest can come from your £30 you have put by but you will still have an amount to go out for the day with.

No on a basic account you shouldn't go overdrawn and i would question this with them. usually my card declines if there isn't enough for the transaction but it could be that you made two payments very close together before the account had time to regster the previous transaction.

Go to the bank, be calm and explain what has happened, you may walk out of it with your £30 intact, or hopefully with no charges to worry about.

  • Its possible one of the places you went into held onto the transaction for a couple of days before claiming it pushing you over.

Definitely go to see them in the bank. I went overdrawn 2 months ago for 2 direct debits that went out. I was facing £90 worth of fines but I went to see them, asked them about it and they refunded them. Good luck and stay positive.

  • I was going to say be careful as usually the charges for going into an unauthorised overdraft can be steep. Definately go and see them and explain so they'll stop any charges.

Well done for dealing with your debts as i know its hard as if you see my signature you see am still dealing with mine. Have had this out with Halifax and these is mainly to do with the Halifax Secure website. What they say is the companies whom subscribe to this facility by halifax have a allowed floor limit and even if you don't have credit in your account you can still draw against it if you go through one of these accounts. Yes even if you have a standard card with no overdraft facilities have proven it myself. However halifax takes no responsibility for your spending and when i pointed this out they said it was my own fault for spending beyond my means. (It cost me £100 in charges to find this out).

Thats what i'm saying you can have a standard halifax account with no ability to go overdrawn sign up with halifax secure through ebay or any other site and become overdrawn as the halifax have an agreement with the site provider not with you to provide funds. Doesn't matter if your t&c's say you can't go overdrawn as you still can in this situation believe me have proven it.

Okay i have checked previous statements and it has happened to me 2 times before admititidly only for small amounts and i havent been charged. when i had a proper halifax account i got charged £35 for going a penny over but now i havent been.

i have a cardcash account and just read on the t&c that there is no charge for a PAID ITEM FEE

im a little unsure what this is but it says this A transaction processing fee for each card payment, cheque, (whether guaranteed or not), standing order and Direct Debit that we pay.

Then goes onto say for my account there is no charge for this as its a card cash account, surely they cant charge me for there mistake??
