Shell Energy issues

I recently moved back to the UK from abroad - to my own house which had been rented out. I went on comparison websites to find a enegy supplier and decided to go  with Shell as they had a good deal with money back. This was Aug 19th and the deal ran out on Aug 31st. Other than a confirmation email I never heard again from Shell. However I did get a letter from them to 'The occupier' informing that the deal I was on was coming to an end. It appeared the tenant had also been with Shell.

I rang shell and after many transfers to different people I was put through to sales who said they had no record of my application and now that deal had run out. Instead of giving up on Shell there and then he persuaded me that he would give me their next best deal. I agreed over the phone. Again, for weeks I heard nothing so I decided to take matters into my own hands and signed up to 'Together Energy'. They were a lot better. However, suddenly Shell took £113 from my account as the first monthly dd. A few days later 'Together Energy' took their first payment of £70.

To clarify I have had no information from Shell. not in paper form or electronic. I do not have a account number. I have Broadband with them but my Energy account hasn't appeared on my online account there. It says 'coming soon' which it has since August. I really can't be bothered to ring again? I have tried messaging online but no response.

I have cancelled my DD but they have £113 of mine and I am sure I haven't used that much from August 19th to October 3rd??? By they way - I have not provided Together Energy with meter readings yet so goodness knows what they are billing me for.
Also, I am worried that Shell will charge me an exit fee although I assume I am within my rights to leave as it was a telephone agreement?

Just frustrated with lack of communication and the difficulties in just setting up a new account.

Just wondering if anyone has had similar hassles with Shell and any advice on how to get this situation sorted out. Basically I want a proper final bill for up to Oct 3rd, Want to give my meter readings and receive a appropriate refund if applicable and not be charged an exit fee.

Go to your DNO's website and find out who is really supplying you.  You can find out who is your DNO via Find My Network Operator. Cancel the DD for the other supplier. Ask them to refund the DDs,or tell the bank to do so if you're unsuccessful. Then make some fresh comparisons, starting with Citizens Advice and 'Switch with Which?' and don't forget to check whether separate suppliers are cheaper
Make sure you're on the Electoral Register, send monthly meter readings and keep your own records.
