Has anyone used Cassandra as their DBMS for data?

Hello!
When managing a large amount of incoming and outgoing data, I'm not sure which DBMS is best suited for this. First and foremost I have to decide whether I choose a SQL database or a NoSQL database, and then I need a suitable DBMS. What do you think is better for a large amount of data? SQL or NoSQL databases?
The classic model would be a SQL database with MySQL as DBMS. Should I still rely on it? I've heard a lot of good things about Cassandra, but that's for NoSQL databases - I'm not sure what to choose. In addition, the performance and scalability should be better than with SQL databases, especially when it comes to larger data volumes. I would then manage and run it through a provider like Aiven, as I could then integrate it into my cloud.
What would you recommend: NoSQL (like Cassandra) or SQL (MySQL)? And why?
