O/S Daily Friday 9 October 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, damp underfoot, rain forecast again.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here, DS1 is getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, potato gratin and peas - all eaten and enjoyed. Tonight will be something quick and easy.
Yesterday I didn't do much other than go into work for training, was quite lazy - did do some menu planning.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's still dark but dry here, cold though.Well, we're back from our last little jaunt of the year, we had a lovely few days in the Lake District though. I'm going to empty the cupboards in the van, and the tinned food can go into my little Covid store.i haven't read along while we've been away, poor/non existent signal on my phone, so I'm hoping everyone is ok. I will catch up later on today.Speak to you later folks, everyone take care.15

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Nice to hear you had a good few days away SR. It feels cooler still this morning with temps forecast to linger around 10/11 deg all day.
All sorts of rumours going round about the next battle against Covid for us Northerners. Not only pubs and restaurants to close but us oldies may be told to isolate indoors yet again. Not that I am doing much galavanting anyway! Talk about a bleak winter ahead.
I survived the trawl around 3 sm's, Aldi, B & M and Poundland with DD yesterday! I had only 4 items on my little list and came home with 4 bags!! There will need to be a serious prune of my Tesco order before its delivered or I will need a bigger fridge and store cupboard! I spotted a few little stocking fillers along the way too to add to my stash.
So it's Friday Tidy day again. What joy. And no head start made yesterday so a busy day in store if I cba. But as no-one is allowed to visit anyway does it really matter if it doesn't get done. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Take care and stay safe x

The sun is shinning but it is chilly and wet underfoot . I shall do some washing today and a general tidy round . I need to take DD2 to her hair and make up lady for a trial today . DD1 is still in hospital fingers crossed home today .

Morning All
Glad you had a good break Scarlett, always good to get away.
It's raining heavily this morning, typical that I have a day off! The washing will have to go on the pulley, I'll save the towels for tomorrow as it's forecast to be better and I may get it outside.
I'm going to meet DD at Costco this morning and I have my flu jab this afternoon, I'll get the housework done in between in case I feel a bit ropey later, I'm not good with needles!
How are you MM, not heard from you for a while.
Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX13 -
Morning all, thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
I still haven't found the hooks but I do have a suspicion about where they are. I must find them, otherwise the hugely reduced alcohol wipes will have been a waste which is not very MSE.
I spent some time on the phone yesterday with friend whose husband died from Covid very early in the lockdown, we were both in tiny pieces.
What else did I do? Some work, not much housework, some washing and some knitting of trauma teddies. I'll finish this one and then switch to baby things for another friend's grandchild to be, I posted things out to another much younger friend for her new baby, they are a surprise, and yesterday she put a post on FB with little one in one of the jumpers I made. I had already felt really honoured that the baby came home from hospital wearing a tiny jacket that I'd made.
I am not going to bother with a proper Friday Tidy, I just cba, though I will do a few essential jobs so that we do not sink slowly into a sea of squalor.
Yesterday while messing in the garden I mean doing a little light gardening, I came across some mushrooms or toadstools and did you know that you can waste ages I mean educate yourself looking up fungi, not that I'd eat them as for each edible one there seem to be poisonous lookalikes. The site I found had a lot about wild plants you could eat and ones you shouldn't. Fascinating and they offer foraging courses too. I'm not sure that I'd ever be a very confident forager.
I have noticed the birds being much hungrier in the past week, I wonder if they have greater energy needs as they must be trying to keep warm now. The pigeons continue to scrap over food, one in particular is just so possessive a out the birdtable and he is getting very fat.
Hope everyone has a good day.
Eta baby pigeon!I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning
A bleak winter in the north is right TA when you look at the rising hospital admissions then something has to be done I guess. Its grim up north taking on a whole new meaningOur pubs close on Monday so I can imagine there will be a lot of partying this weekend
Still busy with project house declutter here I finally got my mug cupboard down to just 20 favourites and trust me lots had to go to reach that figure. Looks a lot better though and if 19 people turn up all demanding coffee then I can still cope
Next on the list is the glasses cupboard now that will be even more challenging it being the biggest cupboard in the kitchen (now doesn't that say a lot....:))
Excitements today are bin day a dishwasher to empty and an on line delivery to sort for tomorrow
Fajitas tonight with some left over chicken
scarlett glad you had a good jollyday
Have a good day all

Morning all
Cold but bright here with rain due later this afternoon, dd has two meetings today but will nip back between to walk the dogs with me.
Usual today of a bit of housework and dog walk, and a 'film' this afternoon, ive put it in comas as I put one on watch about 10 mins and then fall asleepit takes me about a week to watch a film now, im really hoping my energy levels return somewhat after my op.
I am still waiting for the lids for my jars to arrive so that I can make my picalilli, im hoping it will be today or tomorrow, I have all the stuff now and just need the lids.
Meatball sub for dinner tonight so a nice quick dinner will get the meatballs ready to shove in the oven later.
Have good days all xx13 -
Morning everyone - and welcome back SR, it's good to hear that you enjoyed your days away. After the gloom yesterday there was some relief, a clarification was added to the new rule about cafes with an alcohol licence having to close, now they just have to stop selling alcohol. 😀 It seemed so wrong to penalise small independent places and let the bigger players free to stay open. My breakfast place has been saved! I think that the outcry was too much for the First Minister to ignore. This morning started badly when I saw a flat tyre on my car, remember I had four new tyres fitted last month. Grrrr. Anyway, the AA came out within half and hour to fit my space-saver. My garage is sourcing a new tyre, hopefully for today. The damage seems to be an act of vandalism which makes it more annoying. Mind you, worse things are happening and I have to keep this in perspective, I might manage that later. The washing machine is chugging away, DM has had her breakfast and most things are well.Happy Friday to all.13

Morning all, it's dry but showers are forecast later.I have so much to do today that I don't know what to do first. I have 3 of B's dresses to finish on the machine and 2 of them still need titivating. I may get out in the garden to fill up the green waste bins ready for Monday as they will probably stop collection soon. I have a bit of DIY to do, a nail has come out of it's wood and I need to hammer it back in, so I think I'll make those things my priority today or I probably won't get any of it done if I make my list longer. Anything else will be a bonus.Sorry to those "up north" having new restrictions, many hugs to you all. Unfortunately I too think it is going to be a gloomy and dismal winter for everyone as I heard mutterings yesterday about the shielding starting again and this virus could be with us till next March
I don't know if Xmas with families/ friends will be able to take place either so I think it may be just a tin of corned beef with a bit of holly stuck in it for Xmas lunch
What a cheerful post eh ? My name should have been Joy
Tea tonight will be salmon in lemon and pepper sauce and leftover potatoes and veg for me and something and oven chips for himself.Scarlett I'm glad you had a good break.AOD the birds must be hungry here too as I have several pairs of eyes looking hopefully in through the patio doors.Nelski 20 mugs still left ......and I thought I had a lot !!Camelot enjoy your day off and I hope you get through your flu jab unscathed.Gers how's the mouth, better I hope.taff thanks for the hugs yesterday.bella fingers crossed for home for DD1 today.Right better go and make a start.Take care all, stay safe and hugs to anyone in need.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently9 -
Thanks Nmlc. Morning, grey, dull and wet again to add to the despondency. I've just text my hairdresser to see if he is working. My hair hasn't been cut since March and is in dire need - still I suppose that was moneysaving ( does that count as my MS content
) TA, I know how you feel about tidying, if he does come I shall have to do a serious tidy lol.
SR, your break sounds lovely. My cupboards, fridge etc are rather full after the delivery yesterday but it won't take long before it's not.We had chicken kievs yesterday with mash & veg. DS2 had a turkey one later, he took DGS to football training. The market veg man has started putting a printed slip in the box with soup making suggestions with whatever is in the box, yesterday was the HBikers parsnip & apple. Last week I made red pepper & tomato, celeriac the week before, all good.Have some admin for DH so better get on with it, have a good day all x
