Did I buy infrared heater or just a space heater?

Hi,
Has anyone tried infrared heaters before and can describe how they feel?
I have been too curious about infrared heaters and decided to give them a try. I bought it online from a UK based company.
The heater came today, I switched it on, when I stand 1-2 meters away, I can't feel anything. After a few hours, the tiny room did get a little warm, but it is not as they describe infrared heating, far reaching radiation! I can only feel the heat of the panel when my hand is like 10-20 cm away.
It is a 1 kw huge, very heavy metal box panel, closed all around.
Thank you.

Try posting a photograph of it - or a link to the product - then we won't have to second guess what it is or isn't.1

I don't know why, I feel like I bought a big iron.
The surface temperature of the objects within 1-2 meters directly infront of the heater stayed cold, even after a few hours of the heater being on.
Isn't infrared supposed to heat the objects not the air?0 -
If it was emitting infra red it would look like a lamp. Thats some sort of solid panel heater.0

I stand corrected - it does appear you can get a heater that looks like this is a "carbon Crytal" element - not something I've come across before

Well having looked at that link all I can say is that the whole thing sounds like a modern version of snake oil !!

Whats the company?
Youre right in saying that infrared heats things not the air
If its anything like the link that Lorian posted about saving 20% electricty (which is impossible) then its snake oil, if any company claims that their heater saves electricty and gives out the same kw heat output as a rival then they are talking out of their !!!!!!!2 -

Infra red heaters I've known in the past are the bright red visible element style - these are new to me - having had a quick read up - it appears they are best fitted on a ceiling pointing down to a floor - is that how you have it set up?
