Moving house during local lockdowns

Hi,
Me and my partner have recently agreed on a completion date (26th of this month) and we’re wondering if house moves were still going ahead if local lockdowns are in place? Though a local lockdown is yet in effect its looking more and more likely every day.

Any experiences or ideas would be appreciated!

cheers!

  • If you are in and moving to England then the local lockdowns will have no effect. You are free to travel in and out of lockdown areas.

If you are moving to Wales then you cannot travel into an area that is in lockdown or out of a lockeddown area if that is where you live. Not sure if moving house is one of the exemptions to this or not.
  • Thanks MSH,

I am indeed moving to a house within the same area as the potential lockdown so hopefully everything should go through smoothly!

its took long enough and would drive me mental if we had to wait longer over sommet as daft as that!

    thanks!
  • In England there's no restriction of moving house, even in local lockdown areas.

I'm starting to worry about this too. We're close to exchanging contracts and I am hoping to use a full packing service. I'm freaking out we'll find out the day before we move, when someone is supposed to be packing my house, that they won't be allowed in my house at all.

And yet I'm lazy enough to risk it.

Having friends in your home during local lockdown isn't allowed but workmen are...keeping people working is encouraged...just keep out of their way

I moved in May, simply found a local removal firm, got a quote, found out their availability and booked them when contracts were exchanged; I was completing the following morning. Moved 4 days later. From one county to another.

I had packed everything, pointed to what was mine, let them get on with it. Got to my home home, pointed where everything was to go, they out furniture back together, as necessary, handed over cash in a bank coin bag and thanked them for doing it.

Smaller, local removal firms / man and a van are more likely to keep going than big national companies.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

We are in a high risk lockdown area and we are advised that moves can still take place, we moved almost 2 weeks ago. Businesses are carrying on, its only socialising outside the home that’s stopped.
  • I’m in a local lockdown area of Wales. House moves are still allowed to ahead despite the other restrictions.
