I have a Siemens RDJ1ORF thermostat and it is not connecting with the main part. The light is flashing red,is there anything I can try before I have to save up and buy another please.

Obvious question/suggestion first ... is it a battery powered device and have you tried replacing them?1

As above, check the batteries. Is it fixed to the wall, can you take it nearer to the transmitter to double-check?
If after doing all the above and it still doesn't work it might be worth following the instructions (manual is online) to pair thermostat and transmitter.0 -
I've got one of those. It regularly loses connection. The battery contacts are rubbish and then it needs re-programming too as it 'forgets' everything.
I keep having to find the printout of the manual to fix the comms issue. Only did that a few days ago!
Press the <Learn> button on the rear of the display/control unit (with a small screwdriver or biro) to get it back. It needs removal of it from the wall/table stand mounting plate to do that. Then pressing the <Test> button above the <Learn> button should switch on (press again for off) the device it controls (e.g boiler or in my case an electric towel rail) - you'll hear the relay click on/off if by the receiver.
If that fails it may need more reference to the manual (leaflet).0
