i am on ESA and my wife has a part time job doing just over 2 hours a week and DWP know about the job and yesterday got a letter asking me to fill in form saying they need some information and its asked about how many hours she works and how much she gets in wages and address of her employer.
so its got me a bit worried as a couple of years ago i got letter asking us to go to local office and gave work details with wage slips then even when they knew.
so could this be just a review they have to do every now and again or could this be more?
i have nothing to be worried about as they knew about job and nothing has changed with ref to pay or hours.

It's likely they are just doing some checks again. You will need to send the information they asked for otherwise your ESA could stop.
If you're the main claimant of the ESA claim then the maximum she can earn per week is £20 before your ESA is affected £1 for £1, if all your ESA is Income Related.
  • OP, are you sure you meant to type "just over 2 hours a week"?

As long as the information you have provided previously is accurate there is nothing to worry about.

Can i just check that what you put is right about that as i am the main claimant of ESA then she can only earn up to £20 a week?
i thought it was that a partner can work up to 16 hours a week and up to £120 a week.
she only earns about £81 a month and when we went into office a couple of years ago she was on same hours and same pay and they said that was ok so i am a bit confused on what you put.
My ESA is income Related and am in the Support group.
I have just worked out what she earns and its £20.25 a week and she does 45 minutes 3 times a week(she cleans so thats why she only does 45 mins 3 times a week)
but she gets paid monthly so her pay goes up and down each month as there maybe more mondays in one month to the next as she works Monday Wednesday and Friday so how will they work that out if pay is not the same each month due to this?

There are two different rules relating to work and earnings.
If you work you can do up to 16 hours and earn not more than £140/week and this is called permitted work and is ignored.
if your partner works then her earnings are taken into account in but a £20 disregard is applied.

DWP should look for a recognisable work cycle and average the earnings out over that cycle so should arrive at the correct £20.25/week figure (in which case your ESA should be reduced by 25p/week).

Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
