  • And yet Mark Zuckerberg is more interested in censoring opinions than stopping these scammers using his company's platform....

Baffling. Since when was Facebook a reliable platform for anything at all, be it the dissemination of truth or of robotic pigs, dogs, spiders, or sharks?
As to animatronics, you only have to glance at the wannabe human look-alike Zuckerberg, Facebook's most expensive creation, to realise the stuff's totally unconvincing.

This is nothing new. There's one called 'Wish' that advertise on Facebook. You order a sewing machine then 6 months later a dildo turns up.

My unpopular view is that a few people are so gullible they believe that the people doing the warning are wrong, and are missing out on a bargain. I am quite active on various hobby and selling groups on Facebook and have warned of several scams only to be occasionally rebuked by admin that not everything is a scam, and could I please stop putting up warnings as there had been complaints I was somehow keeping all the bargains for myself. I posted several warnings several Christmasses ago about someone Selling fake Michael Kors handbags as pre orders and only taking bank transfers, I almost got banned for that one as apparently the poster was a single mum trying to make ends meet by importing bags , and of course she was genuine, she had photos of her children and everything and of course she needed bank transfers.  She took several thousand pounds before she deactivated her account and disappeared and I think am still on 2 strikes on that group for making malicious claims of scams.

I would have rejoined under another name and said seems like (name) was right about these being a scam then, shame they are
not still around for me to thank them for not losing my money.    I would probably add if you lost money to the scammer sue the
admin because they were party to the scam and should be held liable.

You can probably see why I avoid Facebook.

Scambook + advert - I stopped reading there.
I would never purchase anything being advertised on that platform
90% of the adverts I see on Facebook are reputable companies, JD Sports, Nike, Scotts, Adidas, Reebok, Hollister, John Lewis, etc etc
    Not all adverts are scams.
I would never buy from a company I've never heard of without researching them first. If you see something and it seems too good to be true, it probably is, no matter where it is advertised.

At least half the companies you mention have had fake Facebook accounts set up, the Nike trainer scam did the rounds for ages with people thinking they were buying from Nike but were in fact buying from a fake Far East company .

I must be lucky then, as I haven't seen fake adverts for a very long time!
But also if I do see something I take sensible precautions and open in a new window then check the URL is the actual website. Or go to the actual site and search for the item to check the price on there.

The internet used to be a nice place. I would happily pay money into some unknown bank account without
even a second thought about the item not arriving.

Once bought a 4MB (yes MB not GB)  stick of RAM which turned out to be 2MB, seller was sorry and refunded
right away with the extra money to return it.

Crooks will take advantage of any potential opportunity to scam.  Facebook was never designed as a selling arena, and therefore has no protections in place.
