SSE service fail and goodwill offer

Last year I tried to arrange tarriff change as our radiatiors weren't working during day at all. It was from August to November. I had contacted multiple times and arranged 4 appointments that never happened without even letting me know. We lived during cold months in a almost unheated flat. Now that I have taken the case to Ombudsman services I have been called by SSE and offered £50 goodwill. Should I accept or carry on with the case?
I will appriciate your help.

  • Apologies, I meant Scottish Power
  • why  weren’t the radiators working? Sorry not sure what you are trying to get at, is it a service failure relating to their central heating cover plan or are you on E7?

Before we moved in the owner of flat changed radiators and they weren't working anymore on double tariff. I tried to arrange then to be changed to one tariff and made couple appointments but nobody showed up and nobody let me know, they just didn't do it. So we went months without proper heating in the cold season. I contacted customer service so many times and they did nothing.
  • Hi everyone, any advice please on this?

You still haven't made clear what the problem was.  Presumably you had an Economy 7 tariff with night storage heaters connected to a cheap rate Economy circuit, but you now have panel heaters that need a 24h supply?  Bad news if so, because it will work out much more expensive.  It wouldn't have needed a meter change, your landlord could just have called an electrician to change the E7 circuit over to the 24h supply.  Your landlord isn't doing you any favours, think of moving to a property with gas !
Not sure whether Scottish Power bill an E7 meter at single rate but many others will and they're likely to be cheaper; having to resort to use expensive daytime electricity means that you'll need to save every penny.  Find out your annual consumption (night units + day units) from actual meter readings (not estimates) then start comparing with Citizens Advice and 'Switch with Which?'.  Tell the sites you don't have an E7 meter.
As to the £50, take the money and run.  It's unlikely the Ombudsman would improve it significantly, especially as an electrician could have restored your heating promptly.
