Fitting a new light

The old fitting only had live and neutral connections.
The new one has 3.
This is the hole/connections:

But there is a connection for an earth:

Can I just connect the earth wire from the light to one of those screw terminals?
It's for the bathroom.
Cheers

The earth is the yellow and green. Connect the earth to that terminal at the bottom of the second picture. However, if you're having to ask then maybe you should do some more research, watch a few YouTube videos or get a professional in. There are other considerations when fitting a bathroom light due to the proximity to water and steam.0

What colours are the wires on the new fitting?
In essence, tho', it's as Petrix says - and I also concur with his view that you need to make doubly-sure you know what you are doing since you had ask such a question.
If the new wires need trimming at all, leave the earth wire longer than the other two so it's the last to remain connected when someone swings on that light fitting and brings it down.

I know what I'm doing, just double checking that's correct 😉1

I wouldn't connect into that old smashed up rose. Better to remove all that, put the existing and your new connections into a proper JB and make good the ceiling where you're going to fit your new light. It may be the new light has connectors inside to bring existing wiring into. Connecting a new fitting via half an old rose is a bodge.
Signature on holiday for two weeks1 -
No one seems to have noticed that the live and neutrals are the wrong way around........
Clearly a bodge whoever did it last time , it needs doing properly but i fear that it wont be done2 -
Do the reds look a bit black in the top photo?
Like others have said - I'd want to be tidying that up if it was mine, hager junction box if it will fit or a wagbox.
Understanding its a loop in loop out lighting ring of course.1 -
It looks like the light was wired as a loop system, the three reds are live the two blacks are neutral and switch wire, make sure you disconnect the power as you can’t just rely on turning the switch off..0

Radial not ring , lights are never wired as a ring , only socketsLorian said:Do the reds look a bit black in the top photo?

As above plus a switched live should have a small red marker., tape or sleeving.Alanp said:It looks like the light was wired as a loop system, the three reds are live the two blacks are neutral and switch wire, make sure you disconnect the power as you can’t just rely on turning the switch off..
As others have said, the existing looks diy / amateurish. Best to switch off incoming supply if you have family.
Good luck.0
