Advice Needed Re Damage to Car

I am in Scotland and need advice how I can claim for damage to my car.
About 6 weeks ago a 16 year old damaged my car and it will cost around £400 to repair.
The boy stays with his mum and is working.  I have been in contact with his dad as the mother is not responding to my messages.
The police were involved as I have CCTV evidence, but they only gave him a warning.
How best can I make this family pay for the damage to my car.
I will appreciate any help offered.

Was this vandalism or accidental damage?
I would first send a recorded delivery letter before action. Unless he or his family is willing to pay you would have to go to court. This is quite easy to DIY. You might find this helpful? > https://www.scotcourts.gov.uk/taking-action/simple-procedure
You can get advice from CAB.

You might want to check your insurance policy? My policy provides vandalism cover with zero excess.

OP in reality unless the parents pay it you will be struggling.  Even if you win it will be paid at £5/month (or similar).

Why don't you hand over the info you have to your insurers and let them deal with this?

    This was caused by vandalism.
As far as I am aware he was drunk.
Thank you so much for all your replies.

If the family allow a 16 year to drink and get  drunk i suspect you have little or no chance of getting any money from them ,mind you might get more agro and abuse.
