Great result.
Just a quick note - you say you have some angry calls to make; is it possible that your partner got a good result by being polite but firm?
During my call centre years I'd always reward those with a polite attitude with a good deal; anyone that shouted / got unnecessarily angry was given the bare minimum as provided by my employer (but we always had discretion to do more).
Not having a go, just food for thought from an ex-call handler!

I am a call handler myself and like you suggested, firm politeness will always get you further than screaming
