Few questions on bathroom flooring
newbridge
I need to get a bathroom flooring done in a new build house.
1) The building company says, any good floor fitter should put a ply down on the existing floor before laying click LVT, or tiles.
One floor fitter says I shouldn't need to! What is the norm?
2) The basin/pedastal, toilet has already been installed. So If we were to install tiles, the level would go up. Does that mean the sink has to be removed and raised (re-drilling support holes etc)
3) Is there anything to stop water flowing(kids splasing around) from bathroom to carpet as the tiled level would be higher than existing carpets.
Thanks

My experience says to ply it we had tiles on chipboard and it wasn't good new house we had the fitter marine ply it don't have kids so no answer to that1

Marine play, sounds like your kids make a fair bit of water mess. Unless the floor slopes to the hallway or they tip the entire bath out, l'm sure the hallway carpet won't be an issue.1

I went to a number of places before choosing flooring thet were specific about using SP 101 grade ply under stick down tile1

These days you'd use a cement board like Hardiebacker on the floor before laying tiles. Aside from being strong and the perfect substrate for adhesive, the other benefit is that it is thinner than plywood and so the height difference between tile and carpet is negligible if you have decent carpet and underlay.Ply before laying LVT, yes, unless the chipboard provides a nice, new, level and firm base. The usual new build plasterboard isn't particularly water resistant though.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

The flooring person will tile around the toilet etc and fill with silicone. I believe it's better this way as it makes changing the floor easier next time.0

That has a high chance of looking bad and the flip side of your benefit is that you're in trouble if you need to change the toilet.SharkMoney said:The flooring person will tile around the toilet etc and fill with silicone. I believe it's better this way as it makes changing the floor easier next time. It's easier to take the toilet off to fit a new floor than it is to find a new toilet to fit a specific hole in flooring. It also takes longer to fit tiles around a loo than it would if the loo wasn't there.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Noticed there is existing wooden skirting in the bathroom which the builder fitted. Should it be removed before tiling(there is not enough space under it for tiles) and then probably fit over the tiles? Or I am thinking it wrong in how it should be.[STRIKE]Deposit: 25000!!/15000[/STRIKE] Homeowner :j

Take the skirting off and fit back over the tiles, yes.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
