Burglar alarm

Options
Preparing to move to my first house with the family. I am looking to install a burglar alarm. I was originally looking at Simplisafe  but I dont think it is NACOSS approved as recommended by my lender. Anybody have recommendations for an affordable burglar alarm?

Thanks

Get quotes off 3 local installers.
  • I have ADT with monitors to Police if sensors or shocks triggered and Fire brigade if smoke alarms go off. Also have their ADT cameras ( new ones that sense movement then record and alert) plus a separate continuous recording CCTV system. I also have Ring doorbell.
Im pleased with ADT and my Ring. My CCTV system was installed separately by a local installer so I dont know the name of that

I see where you're coming from Densol---I have very complex alarms , cameras, manned gates and also patrols, etc. But Toyo_86 is looking for an alarm for his first family house (and rightly so) and is quite right IMHO to look at companies like Simplisafe and so many other similar companies , starting at good deterrent alarms starting at £300.  Of course if Toyo's first house is a brightly-lit beacon for burglars and he has very expensive contents or he is going to live in an area of high burglary crime, then that is a different matter.

We have a Visonic Alarm which was funded by a Police scheme after we were burgled. It's done 9 years with no problems at all, just annual servicing. It's a pretty simple unmonitored system with remote controls and room and door sensors, but works well for us.

@Densol how much does it cost to install ADT and what's the monthly cost if you don't mind me asking?
    Thanks

  • Remember if you have an alarm & use it to get a discount on home insurance you'll have to switch it on every time you leave the house, even if you're just popping down the shops

That's the reason my insurers haven't been told that I have locks on my windows, the couple of quid extra premium is worth not having to remember to lock all of the windows every time I leave the house...

Not sure whether they are insurer-approved but we've just installed Era Homeguard Pro.  Doesn't need to be professionally installed, and it was very easy to set up.  In the end I got someone to install the various bits for me as I was too lazy to do it myself.  Had I done it, the only one I would have struggled with was the external siren as we wanted it placed high up on a brick wall.  I'm not good with heights, nor do I have the relevant drill bit.  Other than that it was a piece of cake.
