Hi all.
Situation - our extension for Nan has just been built, and TV aerial point was installed where she wanted it. Now she wants her tele on the other side. No, she isn't going to have an aerial cable running along the new laminate floor, and no, we aren't going to start cutting in to the walls to lay a new cable - thank you.
At least we hope not.
She's familiar with 'Smart' TV features - getting assorted iPlayers up and running on her existing TV - but what we're wondering is, can she get the full 'terrestrial' equivalent via the interweb? Ie, so that pressing 'guide' gives you the usual list of channels from BBC1 to weird stuff at the other end. Or does this still demand an aerial signal?
Is there a super-Smart TV that'll do this? Or a USB dongle that'll ditto?
Thanks.

You can view the BBC channels through the iPlayer, ITV through the hub, etc, but this will require internet connection. The EPG requires an aerial connection.1

Apart from the usual catchup apps (ch4 often does not do live channels on Smart TVs), it is worth checking out TVPlayer app which seems to stream much of the Freeview offering over the internetMFiT-T3 #149: {Q4/14} (£46,447)-->(£0) ~ +£46,447=100%

That's the bit we were looking for - a similar 'guide' interface to a normal terrestrial TV. But that would still require an aerial? That answers that, then.
Anyhoo, we moved the whole room around last night, so now she has her full tele :-) And the room also looks & feels better that way...0 -
It's not a free alternative but have a look at FilmOn. They have a lot of the Freeview channels you'd expect. Otherwise maybe an Amazon firestick with IPTV or the usual on-demand apps.1
