Amex Cashback

Hi
Looking to open an Amex Everyday Cashback card, does anyone know if the higher cashback rate of 1% over £5k resets every year back to 0.5%?
eg. if I spend £8k on the card in one year I would get 0.5% on the £5k and 1% on £3k, in the second year does the rate go back to 0.5% until I spend £5k again in the new year. Or does it stay at 1% as I have spent +£5k in the previous 12 months?
Thanks
