Parking on white zig zag line

First of all, I admit it's my fault parking at white zig zag line no matter what excuses I had.
Today I was late for picking up the kids from school, due to covid, school now operate on a different system, each year group has to be pick up at a designated time. I have 2 children have 2 different time slot and 5 minute walk between 2 different school pick up gate. When I arrive school, there wasn't any parking space, and it's time for picking up child No.1. I parked on the white zig zag line as there was the only one place I can leave the car ( I know it's wrong!), this spot was used by a lot of parents during school pick up on a daily basis.
On my return, I saw a PCN ticket issued by local authority . Then there was a police van pulled over ( I swear I have never seen a police van in near school for the past 3 years). Police didn't even turn up after our house was broken in... I carried on putting the seat belt on the kids etc, totally didn't expect the policeman walked up to me asked me for my driver's license. Next thing I know I was told I will receive a penalty and points fine. I am very upset...
My questions:
1) Do I have to pay both fines from local authority and the police?
2) Will I definitely receive 3 points fine ? I have a clean driver's license for more than 10 years, how will this affect me in the future?
3) It there anything I can do?
4) I am extremely upset by what has happened today, how serious is this offence? Thanks

As we focus on Private Parking companies you would be better off popping over to a forum called Pepipoo.com who are the council experts.2

You shouldn't have to pay 2 fines. But yes, it's serious, that's why it's 3 points. Don't do it again and pay the fine =no problem. You'll probably have to declare it at insurance renal time too, which may have a cost but not likely to be a huge one for just 3 points. These lines are for the safety of your kids and their friends.1

Only if you are insuring your kidneys!scrappy_returns said:You shouldn't have to pay 2 fines. But yes, it's serious, that's why it's 3 points. Don't do it again and pay the fine =no problem. The neighbours near the school have probably had enough of parents parking on the zig zags , across drives and double parking .
I used to live near 2 schools and after many complaints the local council and police were regular visitors to ticket cars .
