Low mileage and annual service

I have only driven for just over 1000 miles this year due to Covid 19. My car (Nissan Micra 2016) is due for MOT at the end of the month. I usually have MOT and full service at same time but not sure wether to delay service because of such low mileage?

What does your service schedule say in the owners service book?  Stick to that rather than MOT + service.
  • I wouldn't change the oil after 1000 miles even though it is a year; it would still be fine.

But check when timing belt, if there is one, needs doing as they are time and milage dependant.

4 years can mean a few extra jobs.  Brake and clutch fluid, spark plugs, various filters, gearbox oil, cambelt etc so you need to check your handbook for what is due.

Having a car stood for long periods isn't good for tyres, brakes and battery.
  • Bear in mind that a 'missed' service (if the book says every year) may put off some buyers when you come to sell.

Low mileage makes servicing even more important. Give it a good drive before going for the MOT, and then service it by the book (which is almost certainly annually).

Thats what I was thinking, but I think a lot of Mircas are chain driven, but other jobs will need doing unless your following the repair when broken service option.
