Replacing front garden with gravel - Scotland

Hi all,
I'm looking to get my front garden replaced with gravel. It's on a busy road and we would never sit out there, so the upkeep is really a waste of time. It's an odd shape - but approximately 35 to 40 square metres.
I've been quoted £1600 which covers:
* Strimming down all grass and shrubbery (it's a little overgrown)
* Removing first few inches of lawn.
* Laying weedproof membrane.
* Laying ~5 tons of gravel
* Materials & labour.
* Skip hire.
This is my first time getting anything like this does. Does anyone know if this sounds like a reasonable quote? I'm based in Glasgow if it helps.
Thanks!

You will be perpetually weeding the gravel and potentially sweeping it off paths etc., before it gets tracked inside - keeping it looking nice is not labour free if that's what you're after.
The membrane won't totally eliminate weeds as they'll blow in and settle between the stones and over time organic matter will also collect - personally I'd look at something that does ground cover and is low growing

4 x £42 + £30 delivery.
Total cost £600 + skip hire and labour.
I suggest the gravel grids may help to retain the gravel, but you will still be sweeping the path.
A weed killer spray may control the growth through the gravel.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1
