As above , it's not paying promptly that generates the CCJ to be actioned , effectively you can think of it as contempt of court , so if you lose in court , pay up , in full , promptly , to avoid credit rating issues

Wait for them to take you to court then - but ultimately 'to assume makes an a** out of you and me' - unless told otherwise verbatim it's never a good idea to assume parking is free because a barrier is up.
  • I agree completely, and I would have happily paid for 1 hour's parking at the time had it been obviously a requirement.

Almost every private car park is now a bear trap designed to catch motorists out. Drivers have to learn to read the signs and abide by the rules (like them or not, we aren't a forum recommending parking anarchism), then the parking companies have no one to pursue. This is the only way to rid the country of the rogue traders that operate in this sector. They only survive by the penalties they issue and which are paid by the naive and unsuspecting. COVID has reduced private parking company income by up to 80%, they are ravenous!
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.
