Green Homes Grant Scheme
Green Homes Grant query
Much has been discussed about the new Green Homes Grant so I decided to go online and check our eligibility. Much to my surprise I discovered that Solar Electric Panels are not a primary improvement although Solar Thermal Panels are included. Has the government given up on Solar Electric Panels even though these are far more efficient than the thermal version that only does hot water (on sunny days!!)?
I would appreciate hearing Martin Lewis's opinion on this subject.
Many thanks
Michael and Lois Greason

HI, I'm Just wondering after looking at the qualifications for the full green homes grant it asks if your in receipt of benefits and one in particular just says "Income Support" does this mean that because i qualify for the "self employed income support scheme" that i am eligible for the full amount of grant to the improvements on my property. If anybody can help i would appreciate it.Thanks0

Income Support is one of the old legacy benefits (like tax credits). I don’t think the current coronavirus support measures for those who are self employed count.0

My tried and trusted Roofer says the Green Homes Grant Scheme is a Government con and I am beginning to believe him.
I registered for the Low Income scheme way back in July when it was announced and was accepted. Since then I have heard nothing excep to find a Trustmark Installer. The problem is there are none in my area. I do not feel inclined to accept work done by a cowboy I know nothing about from 50 miles away. Why not accredit contractors who are registered members of the relevant Trade Association. I wish to employ my tried and trusted Local Double Glazer, I am an old lady and do not wish to risk total strangers in my home, The winter is approaching which is not a sensible time to be having indows replaced!!0 -
Trying to get a quote for room in loft insulation in County Durham Uk , an impossibility...0

I registered with the Gov green grant, and they recommended a cowboy buiding company Greenhouse Energy Ltd who have a 1 star Google rating.0

Hi Martin/friends,
I applied on time for the scheme, with my prepared quotes as per the guidelines on day 1, and I lined up builders for the works as well. I received an email to say that on the 19th October, I would be able to check the progress of my application online. I contacted the Government, only to be told that there has been a delay, and the portal won't be open until the end of November. As you can see from the various posts about the shortage of builders, I am one of the lucky ones to have found builders to do the work, but they cannot wait around until the end of November. (That is assuming we don't get another delay from the Government on giving the vouchers). There was no issues with the Government giving out business loads, and mortgage holidays on time, so why is this scheme so delayed? People like me have made the effort to be quick and efficient in applying for the scheme, why can't the Government help us out as promised?

Hi, I have primary works lined up (under floor insulation) & started to look for installers for double glazing. None listed in the S/E on the SEA or TrustMark websites. Called TrustMark who said to keep checking for new installers. This is an appallingly managed scheme! Total incompetence.0

I feel so frustrated about the huge amount of time I've wasted and all the effort - so far in vain - that I've put into this, that I wanted to add my experience to everyone else's in the hope that Martin might be able to influence the Government to take up one of his suggestions for making the scheme work - unless of course they never meant it to.
I've finally got a quote from a roof insulation company for my primary measure but I'm really after double-glazing, for which I qualify as I only have single-glazing. However, like a lot of other people, I can't find a double-glazing installer in London who is available to do the work (there were only six with the required certification on the Trustmark list) and I'm told that I have to put the quotes for both the primary and secondary measures on the same application. Which means that I have to hold up the first job in the hope that I can eventually find someone to do the windows and then submit my quotes before all the money runs out. Are they really adding new installers daily? Even Simply Energy Advice didn't know that to install double-glazing windows, the tradesman has to have PAS certification, which very few have, as well as Trustmark. A lot of the window companies, to whom I spoke, have never even heard of it, though they have FENSA, CERTASS, Energy Saving Trust and/or Glass & Glazing Federation etc. certifications.
So not being able to get anywhere with it, I'm now having to looking for double-glazing sash window installers outside the scheme, which is the majority of them. At least you can get local recommendations for these, check reviews or consult Which magazine for their list of Trusted Traders. Even if you manage to get one of the Government-endorsed installers, there doesn't always seem a lot to go by to judge the standard of their work. Most installers say they have enough work without joining this scheme, so what does that indicate about those who don't?
